About the Temple

A Refuge Kept Simple, So The Mind Can Settle

Our temple was founded in 1978 by a small circle of monks and lay practitioners who wanted a place where the teachings could be lived rather than only studied. What began as a single wooden meditation hall under a bodhi tree is now a quiet campus of shrine rooms, walking paths and guest quarters, still tended largely by hand.

Daily life here follows an unhurried rhythm: chanting before dawn, silent breakfast, periods of sitting and walking practice, and an evening dhamma talk open to everyone. Visitors of any faith or none are welcome. There is no fee to attend, and the temple is sustained entirely by dana, the freely given generosity of those who have practiced with us.
